Our History
The Puratone Corporation goes back to 1973 when it was founded by a group of managers who worked at a Niverville feed milling operation.

At the time, the Niverville operation was undergoing an ownership change. These managers recognized the opportunity for a focused and dedicated team to better supply the feed requirements of the local poultry producers. They combined their resources to construct a new leading edge feed production mill that began operations in 1975.

The founding managers and owners, Walter Dick, George Hildebrand, Bryan Kehler, Waldemar Pauls and John Koslowsky, teamed up with local grain producer Peter Koslowsky and businessman Julius Fahr. John Koslowsky was the founding President that led the growth of the company for over 25 years. Mr. Koslowsky believed that Puratone's success would come from applying scientific rigour and fiscal discipline to the task of offering products geared to improve producers' bottom line. He also believed that serving this community with ethics and integrity would be the key to long-term viability of Puratone. His team was deeply committed to upholding this foundation.

Since these beginnings, the company has diversified into other livestock and poultry production activities that ultimately led to the development of a fully integrated hog production operation. In 1979 Puratone acquired interests in commercial egg production and in 1982 began contracting pig production. These beginnings into hog production continued to grow through contractual relationships with producers. By the early 1990s, Puratone began joint venturing with investors to establish numerous independent hog production companies that were centrally managed through Puratone’s hog production system.
In the early 2000s these companies amalgamated into Puratone to ensure full alignment of interests of all stakeholders. In 2005 and 2006, Puratone added several other commercial hog production operations through acquisition activities. In 2006, Puratone expanded and consolidated its retail operations through the establishment of the Agri-Mart Poultry & Livestock Ltd. outlets consisting of five stores located in Manitoba. Today, Puratone is a major player in agribusiness in Western Canada and a significant producer of market hogs in the North American landscape.

Despite this growth and the related changes, Puratone has maintained the belief and commitment of ethics and integrity, while focusing on the importance of their employees. These beliefs have underpinned a solid environmental stewardship philosophy and a commitment to quality and animal welfare; attributes which are essential to maintaining a leadership position in today’s food production industry.
